Behavioral and Health Psychology of the Chinese Psychological Society
The Specialist Committee on Behavioral and Health Psychology of the Chinese Psychological Society was conceived in the spring of 2019, established in January 2020, and officially launched in January 2021. It currently comprises 47 members from 32 universities and research institutions nationwide, all of whom are senior experts and academic backbones in the fields of psychology, public health, sociology, and medicine. The committee is chaired by Professor Gan Yiqun, with its secretariat based at the School of Psychological and Cognitive Science at Peking University.
The Committee's primary objective is to leverage psychological knowledge and techniques to modify and rectify behaviors that pose risks to human health or contribute to disease. It aims to foster the development of healthy behaviors, investigate the origins of health, illness, and dysfunction, and contribute to the advancement of the healthcare system and the formulation of health policies, thereby supporting the Healthy China Action Plan.
The Committee's main activities include:
1. Organizing annual academic conferences on topics related to health psychology and launching an "Online Forum Series on Behavior and Health
Psychology" aimed at young scholars and the general public.
2. Enhancing collaboration and exchange with the International Association of Applied Psychology and the Health Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association.
3. Applying psychological science in social contexts to advance and reform public health and medical insurance systems, ensuring that research findings are effectively implemented.
4. Publishing textbooks and educational materials, establishing training programs for master's and doctoral candidates in behavior and health psychology, creating interfaces with hospitals and communities, and setting up internship opportunities.
5. Advocating for traditional Chinese health practices, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, yoga, and Tai Chi, and pooling national resources for health culture research.
