Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology of Chinese Psychological Society

The Specialist Committee on Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology of Chinese Psychological Society is one of the earliest established professional committees. Its precursor was the Psychological Basic Theory Research Association, founded during the Basic Theory of Psychology Symposium held in Beijing in March 1979.Since its inception, the Society for the Study of Basic Theories of Psychology has grown to become one of the most esteemed academic organizations for psychologists in China. By 1990, it had evolved into a prominent professional committee within the Chinese Psychological Society, boasting a substantial membership and significant influence. In 1993, the committee underwent a name change and became known as the Committee on Theoretical Psychology and History Psychology. Later, in May 2022, it was renamed the Committee on Theoretical Psychology and the History of Psychology.

The Committee on Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology holds significant importance as an academic community for professionals in the fields of theoretical psychology and the history of psychology in China. With a membership of 50, the committee comprises a diverse mix of senior experts and young to middle-aged academic talents from 36 institutions of higher education and scientific research institutes across 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China.

The Committee on Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology aims to unite professionals in theoretical psychology and history of psychology, leveraging theory and history to foster profound discussions on psychological theory and historical developments in Chinese and Western psychology. It is dedicated to promoting the healthy advancement of psychology in China and cultivating professionals in these fields.

The Annual Academic Conference of the Committee on Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology serves as the most vital academic exchange platform for practitioners in theoretical psychology and history of psychology. Held once a year, it has convened for thirty-four sessions to date. Guided by the spirit of "preserving the past while embracing the new and holding open doors for conferences," the conference closely aligns with the pulse of the times, focusing on societal development. In recent years, it has attracted an increasing number of psychologists by addressing themes such as” Construction of the Disciplinary System of Theoretical Psychology," "Historical Reflection and the Mission of Theoretical Psychology in the Current Era," and "Disciplinary Innovation in Theoretical Psychology and History of Psychology."
