Developmental Psychology of Chinese Psychological Society
The Developmental Psychology Committee of the Chinese Psychological Association (CPA) was formerly known as the Developmental and Educational Psychology Committee, which was divided into two separate branches in 1984: the Developmental Psychology Committee and the Educational Psychology Committee.
The Developmental Psychology Committee has been led by distinguished individuals throughout its history. Professor Liu Fan served as the director from 1984 to 1989, followed by Professors Xu Zhengyuan (1989-1993), Fang Fuxi (1993-2005), Dong Qi (2005-2013), Zou Hong (2013-2017), Fang Xiaoyi (2017-2021), and Tao Sha (2022- ). The Secretariat is affiliated with the Department of Psychology, Beijing Normal University.
The Developmental Psychology Committee comprises 50 members representing 37 universities and scientific research institutions across 26 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions in China. This diverse membership brings together the core strength of developmental psychology research in the country. The Committee aims to facilitate scientific communication in developmental psychology and related fields, promote scientific research, fund talented researchers, and facilitate the popularization and application of research findings in developmental psychology. Through these efforts, the Committee visions to advance the discipline of developmental psychology, in order to provide a scientific foundation for understanding and promoting the lifelong healthy development of individuals and the progress of society.
The Developmental Psychological Committee organizes national academic conferences biennially, committee meeting annually, as well as various special seminars and training activities to advance the discipline of developmental psychology in China. Under the guidance of the Chinese Psychological Association, the committee has established a science popularization team dedicated to children and adolescents. Professors Yang Lizhu from Liaoning Normal University and Tao Sha from Beijing Normal University have been appointed as chief specialists. Their expertise and leadership facilitate the widespread dissemination of achievements in developmental psychology, benefiting millions of children and adolescents across the nation.
