Rehabilitation Psychology of the Chinese Psychological Society
The health service continuum is comprised of four fundamental components: prevention, intervention, rehabilitation, and health promotion. Within this framework, psychological rehabilitation stands as a crucial part of rehabilitation services and a significant component of the mental health service system. The development of psychological rehabilitation is focused on providing scientifically effective interventions for individuals with functioning and disabilities. This includes people with disabilities, the elderly, chronic disease patients, and those with mental health conditions. The overarching goals of psychological rehabilitation are to elevate the mental health level of the population, establish a comprehensive rehabilitation service system and mental health service system, and contribute to achieving the Healthy China 2030 goals, as well as the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals 3: Universal Health Coverage.
Rehabilitation psychology, as a significant branch of psychological sciences, operates within the framework and approach of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). The primary tasks in this field include: 1) assessing, evaluating, and diagnosing health and mental health conditions at the body, individual, and environmental levels; 2) delivering or implementing psychological rehabilitation interventions and counseling; 3) collaborating with other professionals in a multidisciplinary team approach; 4) evaluating performance outcomes; 5) providing life-span rehabilitation psychology services.
Rehabilitation psychologists are dedicated to restoring clients' physical and mental health, achieving optimal activity and participation, improving environmental factors impacting mental health, promoting population mental health, and enhancing quality of life and well-being.
