Geropsychology of the Chinese Psychological Society
The Geropsychology Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society was established in July 2014. It is the first research-oriented academic organization in China dedicated to the field of geropsychology. The founding Chair was Professor Han Buxin of the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The current Chair is Professor Li Juan, also from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Key Objectives and Activities
1. Academic Exchange
Providing a national platform for academic exchange among geropsychology scholars and actively engaging in international collaboration and dialogue.
2. Theoretical and Empirical Research
Promoting research on fundamental mechanisms, key concepts, and theoretical frameworks in psychological aging and development, including healthy aging, successful aging, and positive aging.
3. Abnormal Aging and Intervention
Advancing research on early identification and early intervention of abnormal aging, as well as evidence-based approaches to promoting physical and mental well-being in older adults.
4. Public Education and Outreach
Organizing science communication activities on mental health in later life and publishing related educational materials.
Academic Activities
The Committee convenes a National Academic Conference every two years and organizes thematic seminars and professional training programs throughout the year. During its Fourth Term, the Committee established several specialized working groups focusing on:
- Positive Aging Perspectives
- Aging Brain and Cognitive Intervention
- Mental Health and Psychiatry in Later Life
- Public Education in Geropsychology
- Professional Training in Geropsychology
These groups regularly conduct academic workshops, collaborative research initiatives, training programs, and applied service activities.
