Chinese Psychological Society Membership Standards and Guidelines

Chapter I General Provisions

Article 1 Purpose and Alignment

To ensure the standardization of the Society's membership development, service, and management, these regulations have been formulated in alignment with the Society's Constitution.

 

Article 2 Eligibility and Application

Individuals or organizations working in the field of psychology as scientific and technological professionals, who acknowledge the Society's constitution, can voluntarily apply for membership. Upon timely payment of the membership fee, they may become members.

Chapter II: Membership Categories and Qualifications

Article 3: Membership Categories

The Society comprises individual members and unit members, with individual members being the primary constituents of the Society.

 

Article 4: Types of Individual Members

Individual members are categorized as follows: a. Ordinary Members (M) b. Student Members (A) c. Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Members (H) d. Foreign Members (F)

 Conditions for Individual Members:

a. Ordinary Members:

(i) Psychologists with a bachelor's degree or higher in psychology; or psychologists who have graduated from university college or above, have been engaged in psychology for more than 3 years, and have demonstrated notable professional achievements.

(ii) Student Members: Undergraduates, master's degree holders, and doctoral degree holders enrolled in psychology teaching and research institutions. Graduate students refer to those enrolled in national graduate schools, excluding those pursuing a degree while employed.

(iii) Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Members: Psychologists in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan with significant achievements in the field of psychology, willing to engage in contact, exchange, and cooperation with the Society. Approval for membership requires a personal application, along with the recommendation of two Society members or affiliates, subject to approval by the Standing Committee.

(iv) Foreign Members: Foreign psychologists with substantial achievements in psychology, displaying friendliness towards our country, and expressing a willingness to engage in contact, exchange, and cooperation with the Society. Approval for membership requires a personal application, along with the recommendation of two Society members or branches, subject to approval by the Executive Council.

 

Article 5: Types of Unit Members

Unit members consist of academic unit members (T) and enterprise unit members (E), and must meet the following conditions:

 (i) Academic Unit Members: Domestic psychology research and teaching units and academic organizations with a certain number of members affiliated with the Chinese Psychological Society.

(ii) Enterprise Members: Enterprises with a specific number of scientific and technological personnel specialized in psychology and related fields, or enterprises primarily engaged in psychology-related business and services, willing to participate in relevant Society activities, support Society work, and are legally established.

 

Article 6: Fellow Title

The title of Fellow is the highest honor conferred upon members of the Chinese Psychological Society who have made significant contributions to the development and construction of Chinese psychology and the Chinese Psychological Society. This title is strictly awarded to members who have been part of the Chinese Psychological Society for ten years or more. Further details are outlined in the Regulations on the Work of the Fellowship Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society.

Chapter III: Membership Procedures

Article 7: Individual Membership Procedures

Individual membership procedures are as follows:

(i) Individual applicants must submit an online membership application, endorsed by two Society members and the provincial society or any professional committee of the Society.

(ii) The Standing Committee shall delegate the Secretariat to review and approve the application. Applications from members in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign countries shall be submitted to the China Association for Science and Technology for final approval.

(iii) The Secretariat shall notify the applicant of the approved membership.

(iv) Upon payment of the membership fee, individual membership becomes effective, and a membership card shall be issued.

 

Article 8: Unit Membership Procedures

Unit membership procedures are as follows:

(i) The applicant organization submits the online application form and relevant materials.

(ii) Examination and approval by the Secretariat.

(iii) Approval by the Standing Council.

(iv) Upon approval and payment of the membership fee, unit membership becomes effective.  

 

Article 9: Non-Qualifying Circumstances

Membership shall not be granted under the following circumstances:

(i) Individual applicants who have seriously violated the code of academic ethics, breached professional ethics, or caused significant losses to the interests or reputation of the Society.

(ii) Institutions with poor credit records or those that have caused significant losses to the interests or reputation of the Society.

Chapter IV: Rights and Obligations of Members

Article 10: Rights of Members  

Members enjoy the following rights:

(i) Voluntary membership with the freedom to withdraw.

(ii) The right to elect, be elected, and vote (excluding student members, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan members, and foreign members).

(iii) Participation in the activities of the Society and its branches.

(iv) Priority and preferential access to Society services, with specific services and preferential measures announced by the Society.

(v) The right to criticize, suggest, and supervise the work of the Society.

 

Article 11: Obligations of Members

Members shall fulfill the following obligations:

(i) Adherence to the constitution and systems of the Society, while safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the Society.

(ii) Timely payment of the membership fee.

(iii) Active participation in the activities of the Society and promotional efforts.

(iv) Providing feedback on situations and relevant information to the Society.

(v) Contribution to the development of the Society.

(vi) Timely updating of members' information and contact details.

Chapter V: Withdrawal

Article 12: Withdrawal Process

Members requesting withdrawal from the Society for any reason must notify the Society in writing and return the membership card. Upon withdrawal, membership and associated services will cease, and dues paid will not be refunded.

 

Article 13: Automatic Withdrawal

Members who fail to pay the membership fee within one term will be considered as automatically withdrawing from the Society. They must re-apply for membership approval to regain active status. Non-payment of dues disqualifies members from becoming a member representative, director (executive director) candidate, and participating in various recommended selection activities of the Society.  

 

Article 14: Removal of Members

Members who seriously violate the Articles of Society may be removed by a decision of the Board of Directors (Executive Council).  

Chapter VI: Dues Payment and Management

Article 15: Standard Membership Fees

Standard membership fees are determined by the General Assembly.

 

Article 16: Dues Collection

Dues are collected on a four-year term, effective from January 1 of the year following the renewal until December 31 of the next renewal year. Renewing members shall pay their membership fees in the year following renewal, while the fees of new members are applicable from the year of approval to the end of the current session.

 

Article 17: Dues Exemption

Members who have paid their dues for two consecutive terms and have officially retired without holding any office in the Society may apply for exemption from payment of dues.

 

Article 18: Dues Management

Collected dues shall be managed by the Society and utilized in accordance with the provisions of the Society's financial management regulations. The Secretariat shall annually publicize the collection and use of dues to the members.

 

Article 19: Formulation and Amendment

These Regulations shall be formulated and amended by the General Meeting of Members and shall come into force after adoption.

 

Article 20: Interpretation

The interpretation of these Regulations shall be conducted by the Standing Committee.
