Psychology Open Science Suzhou Proposal

On August 12, 2023, the National Joint Conference on the High-Quality Development of Psychology Academic Journals and the 10th Anniversary of the Journal of Soochow University (Educational Science Edition) took place in Suzhou. The event was hosted by the Working Committee for Publication of the Chinese Psychological Society and organized by the College of Education at Soochow University and the Soochow University Journal Center.

Participants unanimously agreed that the principles of "availability," "sharing," "transparency," "reuse," and "societal engagement" promoted by Open Science would enhance the quality, reproducibility, and impact of psychology research in China, supporting scientific decision-making and building public understanding and trust in psychology. To further psychology’s development in China, participants reached a consensus on several core proposals and issued the following call to action to Chinese psychology researchers:

1. Advocate for psychology researchers to embrace the principles of open science in their research practices, ensuring openness and transparency throughout the scientific process.
2. Support sharing research papers as preprints before publication to encourage open knowledge exchange.
3. Promote pre-registration of studies before initiating research to enhance transparency and credibility.
4. While adhering to national data protection regulations, strongly recommend publishing papers in line with the principles of “discoverability,” “accessibility,” “interoperability,” and “reusability.” Additionally, encourage the simultaneous disclosure of associated data on compliant scientific data platforms.
5. Actively encourage the full disclosure of essential elements for reproducible research—such as measurement tools, experimental materials, datasets, observations, and program codes—either as paper appendices or through other suitable formats.
