International Union of Psychological Science President Invited to 2024 ZGC Forum Annual Meeting
On April 25-29, 2024, invited by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Chinese Psychological Society (CPS), Germán Gutiérrez, President of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), participated in the annual meeting of the 2024 ZGC Forum.
Under the theme of “Innovation: Building a Better World”, the Forum highlights cutting-edge exploration, achievement sharing and open cooperation, and organizes nearly 120 activities around scientific and technological frontiers and hot topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Space Science, Life and Health, Carbon Neutrality, and Future Industries, etc., with more than 150 foreign countries and regions, government departments and international organizations and institutions, etc. participating in the Forum. On the morning of April 25, Germán Gutiérrez was invited to participate in the opening ceremony and plenary session of the forum, and in the afternoon, he participated in the International Forum on Basic Research for Sustainable Development co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and on April 29, he participated in the World Forum on Digital Health, which is one of the series of forums of the Artificial Intelligence Theme Day.
Germán Gutiérrez said the convergence of AI technology has become a key force in promoting social development and solving complex problems, and gave a very high evaluation to the development of AI in China, which has made remarkable achievements in application and innovation, especially in the fields of education, healthcare and basic science. Global participation is an important part of scientific and technological progress, and he hopes that the future forum will further enhance international cooperation and jointly explore more possibilities for psychology in the fields of AI global governance and healthcare, etc. Through cross-border, cross-field and cross-organizational cooperation, AI technology can be better utilized to address global challenges, promote scientific and technological progress, and benefit human well-being.
During the forum, on the afternoon of April 26, Germán Gutiérrez had a discussion with Luo Yuejia, President-Selected of the CPS, Sun Xianghong, Secretary-General, and other leaders of the society. Since the 1980s to the present, the IUPsyS and the CPS have maintained a long-term friendly and cooperative relationship, jointly promoting academic exchanges in psychology, promoting psychology to serve the needs of society and the public, and actively participating in social governance, and in the future will continue to carry out more pragmatic cooperation, jointly promoting the development and application of psychology in the world, and contributing more psychological power to social governance.
From April 26-28, Germán Gutiérrez was invited to visit the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Department of Psychology of Tsinghua University, the Department of Psychology of Renmin University of China, and the State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning of Beijing Normal University, where he gave academic presentations and had in-depth exchanges and discussions with teachers and students.
On the evening of April 29, Luo Hui, member of the Party Group and Minister of International Cooperation Department of CAST, met with Germán Gutiérrez. Both sides reviewed and affirmed the cooperation and exchanges between CAST and ICSU, and between the CPS and IUPsyS, and exchanged views on joint support for Chinese psychology scientists to participate in international organizations.
On his way out, Germán Gutiérrez expressed his heartfelt thanks to CAST and CPS for their invitation. The trip to China made him feel China's leading role in the frontier of science and technology, such as artificial intelligence and life sciences. The development of scientific and technological innovation cannot be separated from global participation, and interdisciplinary, cross-organizational and cross-border cooperation is a necessary way to promote scientific and technological innovation and social progress. It is hoped that psychology will contribute more to scientific and technological innovation and social governance in the future. At the same time, this trip also enhanced his understanding of the current development of the discipline of psychology in China. He was impressed by the results of China's basic research and applied practice, which provide new perspectives and motivation for future international cooperation of IUPsyS, and hopes that there will be more exchange opportunities in the future.
